Amazon truck crashes in Coral Gables can bring hospital bills, missed work, and insurance calls all at once. If an Amazon delivery truck or van hurt you or someone you love, you may have a claim against the people or companies responsible.
Florida law decides who may pay. It also decides how fault is divided and how long you have to act. This guide explains what happens after a crash. It covers who may be responsible and which deadlines apply.
CHG Personal Injury Lawyers is a Florida personal injury firm. We represent people hurt in accidents throughout Florida.
Amazon Delivery Trucks on Coral Gables Roads
Amazon delivery vans and trucks drive on Coral Gables streets every day. Routes often follow the Miracle Mile and Ponce de León Boulevard. Then they turn onto Le Jeune Road, Red Road, and Douglas Road. Some vehicles arrive from South Dixie Highway (US-1).
Anyone who has walked the Miracle Mile on a busy afternoon knows how crowded it gets. Now add a delivery van parked at the curb. The road feels smaller fast.
These streets carry many kinds of traffic at once. Cars pull in and out of shops and parking lots. Residential side streets have parked cars and kids on bikes. Cyclists and pedestrians share lanes with heavy vehicles.
Crashes often happen in predictable places. Common settings include:
- Turns at intersections
- Lane changes near busy blocks
- Backing up at driveways or loading zones
A van or truck needs more room than many drivers realize. Blind spots matter most in these moments.

What Happens If an Amazon Delivery Driver Crashes?
The first steps after a crash protect your health and your claim. Call 911 so police and medical help can reach the scene.
Get checked by a doctor, even if you feel fine. Some injuries show up hours or days later. Follow your doctors’ care. Keep every appointment.
At the scene, take photos of the vehicles, the road, traffic signals, and any damage. Write down witness names and phone numbers. Note the driver’s name, the company on the vehicle, and the license plate.
Florida requires a detailed crash report for many crashes. The officer must submit the long-form report within 10 days after the investigation is complete. Under the same statute, the people involved, their legal representatives, and their insurers can get the report right away. The report lists each party’s insurance company. That helps identify who may be responsible. (Florida Statutes § 316.066)
Insurance may come from more than one place. The driver, the company running the route, and the vehicle owner may each carry a different policy. Coverage can differ. Keep copies of everything you receive.
Who May Be Responsible for an Amazon Truck Crash
More than one person or company may share responsibility for an Amazon truck crash. The driver is not always the only party to look at.
A delivery route can involve several businesses. These may include:
- The company that employs the driver
- The company that runs the route
- The owner of the vehicle
- Firms that maintain or repair it
Federal rules set safety duties for commercial drivers. A driver may not operate a commercial motor vehicle when fatigue, illness, or another cause makes it unsafe, or when the driver is so likely to become impaired that it would be unsafe to operate. The only exception is a grave emergency where compliance would increase the hazard; then the driver may continue to the nearest place where that hazard is removed. (49 C.F.R. § 392.3) Federal law also requires motor carriers to keep minimum financial responsibility for public liability and property damage. A motor carrier is a company that moves goods by truck.
Florida divides damages by fault. Damages are the money a court awards for losses. In a negligence action, the court enters judgment against each liable party based on that party’s percentage of fault. Florida’s apportionment statute does not use joint and several liability in negligence actions, but it does not apply to any action brought to recover actual economic damages resulting from pollution, to any action based upon an intentional tort, or to any cause of action where joint and several liability is specifically provided by chapter 403, chapter 498, chapter 517, chapter 542, or chapter 895. Joint and several liability would make one party pay the full amount. (Florida Statutes § 768.81)
Florida also recognizes a right of contribution. Contribution means parties at fault can share the cost of a judgment. Under this right, relative degrees of fault are the basis for sharing liability. (Florida Statutes § 768.31)
In 2026, the U.S. Supreme Court addressed a related question. In Montgomery v. Caribe Transport II, LLC, the Court held that a state-law claim that a broker negligently hired an unsafe motor carrier falls within a federal safety exception. A broker is a company that arranges trucking work. (Montgomery v. Caribe Transport II, LLC) That case involved a freight broker. Each claim has its own facts.
Serious Injuries in Delivery Truck Crashes
Large vehicle crashes can cause serious injuries. These injuries can last long after the first weeks. Injuries from a heavy van or truck often include:
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Spinal cord injuries
- Serious back and neck injuries
- Broken bones
- Internal injuries
Some injuries change a person’s life permanently. Paralysis, amputation, and severe burns can affect how a person works, drives, cares for children, and handles daily tasks. Recovery may take months or years. Some effects may last a lifetime.
These injuries often bring costs that add up. Medical bills, rehabilitation, equipment, time away from work, and help at home can all follow. A family may also need to shift roles at home.
Keep a simple written log. Note pain, sleep problems, memory or focus trouble, missed work, and tasks you can no longer do. Keep all medical records, bills, and receipts.
This record shows the full impact of the crash over time, not just the first visit. Your doctors guide your medical care. Follow their plan.

Florida Deadlines and Possible Compensation
Florida generally gives injured people two years to file a negligence lawsuit. Negligence means harm caused by someone’s failure to act with reasonable care. (Florida Statutes § 95.11) Wrongful death claims follow their own timing rules. Deadlines apply to actions other than for recovery of real property, and each type of action has its own time limit. Contact a lawyer promptly.
Florida also uses a fault rule. It is called comparative fault. Under this law, a party found more than 50 percent at fault for his or her own harm may not recover any damages. (Florida Statutes § 768.81) This rule does not apply to medical negligence actions under chapter 766. Put simply, the percentage of fault matters from the start.
Compensation may cover losses such as medical bills and lost income. When a loved one dies, a wrongful death claim may be filed. Florida’s comparative fault statute, Fla. Stat. § 768.81, includes a rule for medical-malpractice actions: when an apportionment of damages is attributed to a teaching hospital as defined in s. 408.07, the court enters judgment against that teaching hospital on the basis of its percentage of fault, not joint and several liability. (Fla. Stat. §§ 768.16–768.26) Each survivor may recover the value of lost support and services. A surviving spouse may also recover for loss of companionship and mental pain and suffering. (Florida Statutes § 768.21)
Miami-Dade Crash Data and Why It Matters
Official crash reports are the starting point for understanding a crash on local roads. A Florida Traffic Crash Report records the vehicles, the people involved, and their insurers. It gives a written record of what the officer found at the scene. (Florida Statutes § 316.066)
Coral Gables sits within Miami-Dade County. Heavy commercial traffic, residential streets, and busy shopping corridors meet here. Drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians all share these roads. Local awareness helps everyone use them more carefully.
A crash report works best alongside other evidence. Witness accounts, photos, vehicle damage, and medical records together give a fuller picture of what happened.
