Cauda equina syndrome (CES) is a medical emergency. The cauda equina is a bundle of nerves at the base of your spinal cord. It controls sensation and movement in your lower body, legs, bowel, and bladder.<\/p>\n

The Cascade of Damage: Why Every Hour Matters<\/h2>\n

When pressure on the cauda equina persists, nerve cells lose blood supply. Oxygen-starved cells begin to die. The longer the pressure remains, the more cells die.<\/p>\n
